Wares & Things: Eggpicnic

It has been over two months since I posted a Wares & Things find, which means we're long overdue for some adorable, handmade pieces. Don't you think? Today's find is Eggpicnic, a fine art shop run by owner/artist Camila De Gregorio, which is located in Sydney, Australia (I swear, I keep coming across amazing artists Down Under, it might be time to plan a trip!)

The shop has original art of cartoon-ized people and animals (I'm obsessed with her "Bird" series!), as well as custom felt creations that look like her vision of wildlife. How perfect would that elephant or orangutan be in a nursery? I love the proportions--big head and skinny-stick legs--and of course, the button eyes.

And don't even get me started on how gorgeous the black cockatoo piece is below! I can imagine an animated movie in this style, it's just so lush and unique.

If I had to pick one thing, I would have to go with that orangutan. I mean, c'mon, that face! Which one is your favorite?

Wares & Things: Out of Print

Yesterday, I briefly mentioned a must-visit stop in Little Tokyo, The Hob Nob—an adorable shop with a slew of clothing, bags and jewelry from independent vendors.

What caught my eye (and really, the whole reason I walked into the store) was their display of literary t-shirts. These shirts are made by Out of Print, a clothing and accessories retailer that specializes in prints that showcase the covers of, you guessed it, out of print and original editions of classic novels. I went into the store and immediately tore through the rack, because every shirt was better than the next! I seriously wanted every single one!

The quality of the shirts is so soft, and their women's tees come in a variety of v-, crop, or scoop neck styles. The best part? For every item sold, Out of Print donates one book to a community in need through Books for Africa! How amazing is that?

Since I had to limit myself with the spending coming out of Hob Nob, I walked away with only one literary t-shirt score: A Clockwork Orange!

I'm wearing it as I type this, and so it's no surprise that the moment I got home, I did a search for more Out of Print shirts that I could put on my wish list. My favorite book of all time is Frankenstein, and considering Halloween is coming up, of course I was drawn to the "horror" novel covers, of which they had plenty!

Wares & Things: Coriumi Handmade

My twin sister, Stacy, recently got married, and I was lucky enough to be the Maid of Honor. It was by far the most breathtaking wedding I've ever attended, and I was honored to stand up alongside she and her fiancee [now husband].

The morning of the wedding, prior to the ceremony, Stacy gave myself and her other bridesmaids (my dear friends Cassie and Jessie) a handbag, full of "must have" essentials for the evening. Lipstick, lipbalm, mints, kleenex, etc. But what caught my eye was not the contents of the bag, but the bag itself.

Ever the brilliant shopper, Stacy had discovered an incredible shop online that specialized in handmade, screenprinted bags. So I felt compelled to feature them on my blog today. Coriumi Handmade is based in Lithuania, of all places, and the bag I received was a waxed linen, with leather base. They all have amazing geometric prints or metal detailing, and the colors are so vibrant, it makes it nearly impossible to decide on a style.

There are certainly some leather screenprinted bags available in her shop now that I am just drooling over. Who couldn't use a unique and gorgeous handbag for a day out and about? Perfect gift for a girlfriend - or yourself!

Wares & Things: Suite One Studio

My new obsession is serving platters. When John and I threw our first AFI movie night, I was in a scramble day-of when I realized I didn't have anything to put anything on! In my previous studio/does-this-really-constitute-a-kitchen? kitchen, I never had room for any items larger than my 12" skillet. ONE skillet.

Thus began my scavenger hunt. I dropped a handful of dollars for some Target ones, in a pinch. [They actually have an amazing Nate Berkus designed tray that I bought a friend for her birthday]. But I really wanted to see what else was out there; something a bit more unique.

That's when I stumbled upon Suite One Studio. Owner Lindsay Emery makes all kinds of ceramics for dining, entertaining, and decorating -- she even has a sweet and delicate blog that I'm just loving right now.
